Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has publicly endorsed the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
CS Mutua, in a statement titled ‘Why Rigathi Must Go,’ criticized several remarks made by Gachagua concerning Mt Kenya, suggesting they were against the spirit of national unity.
Labeling Gachagua a rogue deputy president, Mutua emphasized that the impeachment is not a political move.
“Tribalism and corruption have long been the curse of Africa. Kenya of today cannot be dragged backward. We are one united country, and it must remain that way,” part of the statement read.
“This is why the motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is about more than just politics it’s about preserving Kenya’s spirit.
That’s why it has garnered support from different political parties, including Kenya Kwanza and Azimio parties like ODM, and even Wiper Party members.”
The motion was notably introduced by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, a member of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party founded by Mutua.
“Inciting violence, promoting corruption, and attempting a coup are unacceptable actions for any leader,” added the CS.
“These behaviors contradict the values we uphold as the Maendeleo Chap Chap party and as part of the ruling coalition. Kenya deserves better leadership.”
This week, MPs will debate Gachagua’s impeachment before proceeding to a vote.
If the required numbers are achieved, the motion will then be forwarded to the Senate for further debate and voting.
