UDA Threatens To Deplatform DP Gachagua As They Bolster Impeachment Plot

Acting United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the signature collection campaign aimed at obtaining enough votes from MPs to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is on track.

Speaking at a function attended by several other legislators, the UDA Secretary-General announced that the drive had already reached 300, surpassing the 117 threshold.

During the event, Omar chastised the deputy president for inciting division in the country and accused him of playing tribal politics despite being a national leader.

According to a party official, DP Gachagua’s recent sentiments against President William Ruto’s administration pose a significant threat to the country’s unit.

“What we are seeing him currently doing is argue for the same old policies, of malice, division, hatred and ethnicity,” Omar claimed.

“I don’t think it is proper to have a deputy president who is a threat to the country’s unity,” he added.

Hassan Omar’s comments came just moments after Central Organisation for Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli called for the arrest of the DP, citing Gachagua’s penchant for polarising the country.

While speaking to a congregation in Uasin Gishu, Atwoli accused Gachagua of disrespecting the president and causing divisions in the country with his controversial speeches.

“You prayed to God so that he can help you to run the government and then you start to contradict government policies and you sit in the cabinet and the National Security Council,” Atwoli said.

“You should be apprehended, there is no country that can tolerate such a person, for the sake of securing the country,” he added.

The two leaders’ statements came hours after DP Gachagua criticized President Ruto for inciting parliamentarians to impeach him against what he believes is the will of the Kenyan people.

Speaking at a rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the DP lashed out at a group of lawmakers plotting his impeachment, claiming that he would not be intimidated by mere threats of dismissal.

“If Ruto is tired of Mt Kenya votes he should tell us, let him stop telling Members of Parliament to impeach me,” Gachagua stated.

“I will not be intimidated. They are calling for my resignation, I will not allow it, I was given the job by the Kenyan people.”
