“I Will Not Be Intimidated!” Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Warns President Ruto As Impeachment Plan In Motion

As the plot to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua intensifies, the second-in-command warned President William Ruto on Saturday not to initiate his removal.

Speaking at a rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the deputy president accused the Head of State of inciting parliamentarians to impeach him against the wishes of the Kenyan people.

While reaffirming his position, DP Gachagua took aim at MPs, stating that he would not be intimidated by mere threats of impeachment.

According to Gachagua, lawmakers had no authority over his impeachment because he was elected by Kenyans.

“If Ruto is tired of Mt Kenya votes he should tell us, let him stop telling Members of Parliament to impeach me,” DP Gachagua stated.

“I will not be intimidated. They are calling for my resignation, I will not allow it, I was given the job by the Kenyan people,” he added.

The Deputy President also cautioned President Ruto against betraying Mt Kenya voters.

He claimed that without him (Gachagua), the Head of State would not have received votes from the region.

Gachagua’s sentiments come as a section of Kenya Kwanza and Azimio lawmakers prepare to file an impeachment motion against him.

However, the move faces potential legal challenges after a Kenyan filed a court petition on Friday seeking orders to prevent MPs from introducing a motion to impeach the President.

The youth leader claimed in his petition that there was no constitutional framework for impeaching a deputy president.

According to the petitioner, impeaching Gachagua would disrupt the Executive’s functions and impede the country’s development.

“We cannot allow the less fortunate, the people who are working for us to be impeached unconstitutionally. We will not allow the Executive to be weakened,” the petitioner claimed.

“I have filed a petition against this injustice which is about to happen in the parliament. My petition says there is no impeachment model of the deputy president.”
