Azimio Allied Senator Threatens President William Ruto Impeachment If DP Rigathi Gachagua Motion Proceeds

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, a member of the Wiper Party, on Monday addressed the ongoing power struggle in Mount Kenya, involving Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.

During a Tuesday appearance on Citizen TV, Maanzo suggested that any impeachment motion against the Deputy President should also include the President, as both were elected on the same ticket.

“If there is an impeachment motion against the Deputy President, we will also have one against the President since they are inseparable. There’s no misconduct from Honourable Gachagua.” Senator Maanzo said.

When asked to explain his reasoning, he elaborated that both impeachments should be handled simultaneously, with the Senate and National Assembly addressing them together.

He argued that such an approach would eliminate any efforts aimed at frustrating DP Gachagua, as he sees no justification for an impeachment.

The senator further asserted that while Gachagua is being targeted, it is the President who has violated the Constitution on several occasions.

Addressing accusations that DP Gachagua is prioritizing Mount Kenya over national issues, Maanzo defended him by emphasizing that Gachagua’s focus on his home region is expected.

“He served as a Member of Parliament for Nyeri. It’s unreasonable to expect him to neglect his community while addressing other regions.” Added Maanzo.

To support Gachagua, Maanzo explained that the Deputy President’s work with tea, coffee, and macadamia farmers extends beyond Mount Kenya to regions like Kericho, where MPs have failed to address similar issues.

He further noted that the plot to impeach Gachagua has been brewing since the moment he joined Ruto’s ticket.

Maanzo challenged MPs, saying that if they proceed with impeaching the Deputy President, the Senate would initiate an impeachment motion against the President as well.

Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was part of the interview panel, echoed Maanzo’s sentiments.

Wamuchomba confirmed that there was discord among Mount Kenya MPs when selecting Ruto’s running mate, with Gachagua losing twice to Kindiki before finally being chosen after a third vote.

She emphasized that she had consistently supported Gachagua due to his administrative experience and made a passionate appeal to the President to select him, avoiding pressure from the majority who preferred Kindiki.
