Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua In Big Spiral As 69 Mount Kenya MPs Declare Support For Interior CS Kithure Kindiki

The Mt. Kenya and Diaspora Parliamentary Leaders Forum has officially named Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as their primary liaison.

This comes just days after elected members of Parliament from Mt. Kenya East pledged their support for Kindiki as their primary representative to the national executive.

This decision, which reflects the ongoing political intrigues in the Mt. Kenya region, was made public on Thursday during a meeting in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.

Forty legislators from Mt. Kenya West and the diaspora signed the “Nyahururu Declaration,” bringing the total number of legislators who support CS Kindiki to 69.

This endorsement paves the way for a potential political clash between CS Kindiki and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over control of Central Region politics.

According to the MPs forum, the decision is consistent with their overall strategy to streamline efforts and effectively address developmental priorities.

The political caucus, made up of elected leaders from various constituencies in Mt. Kenya and the diaspora, expressed their willingness to work closely with Prof. Kindiki to advance the region’s legislative and developmental agendas.

The forum’s statement emphasized the critical role CS Kindiki will play in establishing a direct link between parliamentary leaders and the executive branch.

This liaison is expected to improve the coordination of national government functions and address the development needs of the Mt. Kenya region and its diaspora.

“Given the prevailing state of affairs and the urgency of the mission ahead, there is a need for a link that will create a nexus between us and the National Executive on development matters,” the legislators stated.

“Accordingly, we, as the elected leaders from this region and its diaspora, unanimously resolve that our link to the National Government be the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whose responsibilities include the coordination of National Government functions across the country.”

Thursday’s meeting also emphasized the leaders’ dedication to their constituents and gratitude for the support they have received.

They thanked Kenyans for electing them and supporting the Kenya Kwanza Administration, which is led by President William Ruto.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to holding regular meetings to review progress, celebrate accomplishments, and discuss critical issues.

The developments on Thursday follow recent declarations by legislators from Mt. Kenya East, who have called for political and economic autonomy, claiming they have been marginalized in national matters.

Legislators have stated that they intend to no longer serve as “voting machines” and instead seek to negotiate as a distinct political entity.
