On Monday, September 9, an incident occurred in Nakuru when a man attempted to snatch a firearm from a female bank guard, leading to a swift and chaotic response from both the public and police officers.
According to police reports, the incident began when the man approached Officer Dakwin Kipsoo, who was stationed outside a bank in Naivasha.
Pretending to need assistance, he asked for directions to a nearby building.
However, his true intentions quickly became clear when he grabbed Kipsoo’s AK-47 rifle by the muzzle, attempting to disarm her.
What followed was a physical struggle between the man and the officer, who fought to retain control of the firearm.
The commotion outside the bank drew the attention of bystanders and alerted Police Constable Ambrose Kipruto, who was inside the bank at the time.
Upon witnessing the altercation, Kipruto rushed outside to assist his colleague.
Realizing that his efforts to grab the rifle had failed, the suspect made a desperate attempt to flee towards Nakuru’s Central Business District.
However, he was soon cornered by police officers and members of the public who had gathered at the scene.
The angry mob, frustrated by the brazen nature of the attack, descended on the man, beating him in retaliation for his actions.
Officers were able to intervene and rescue the suspect from the mob before the situation escalated further.
The injured man was arrested and escorted to the Naivasha Police Station for further questioning, though he appeared to have sustained injuries from the beating.
Following the incident, Crime Scene and Investigations (CSI) personnel were called to the scene to document and process the events for further investigation.
The swift response by both law enforcement and the public averted what could have been a far more dangerous situation, and authorities continue to investigate the suspect’s motives.
