Sad As Missing Third-Year Student Found Dead, Body Dumped In River Narok

A university student who went missing on September 2 was found dead in what police believe to be a drowning incident.

The decomposing body of a Maasai Mara University student was discovered floating along the River Narok, 10 kilometers from the school.

Police, assisted by Red Cross officials, recovered the body, which was then transported to the Narok County Referral Hospital morgue.

Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident, saying the body was discovered floating in the river near Morijoi.

The discovery of the body put an end to the students’ concerns about their whereabouts after she went missing at 11 a.m. on September 2.

After being reported missing at the Maasai Mara police station, the journalism student’s family and friends set out to find him.

According to Commander Ngare, the deceased’s mother has travelled from Eldoret to Narok to identify the body.

This latest incident highlights the dangers Maasai Mara University students face at the hands of the River Narok.

In April, two students from the same institution drowned in the river while attempting to cross a frail bridge.

Two students, one male and one female, were on an adventure when they were swept away by the flooded river.

Authorities claimed the pair was attempting to cross an impassable section of the river when one of them tripped.

The other student also fell into the river, attempting to assist his counterpart.

River Narok has an infamous black spot that has claimed the lives of both students and civilians.

Professional divers in the area claim that during the long rains, the river can reach a depth of 14 metres.
