Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration is working to lift the caveat that prevents residents of Mauche and other neighboring areas from receiving title deeds to their land.
Gachagua stated that the hundreds of families in the region deserve title deeds to spur economic growth.
He spoke on Saturday at the memorial service for the husband of Njoro MP Charity Kathambi and the launch of the Kathambi Chepkwony Foundation in Mauche, Nakuru County.
The East African Court of Justice issued a caveat prohibiting the subdivision of land in the Mau Forest.
This was done in a legal battle between Kenya’s government and the Ogiek Community, which lives in the forest.
“We (the Kenya Kwanza Administration) promised to remove the caveat. I want to give the commitment of President William Ruto that this issue will be sorted once and for all,” he said.
Gachagua stated that a meeting will be held to bring together leaders from the areas affected by the caveat as part of the resolution process.
He went on to say that squatters will benefit economically once they receive title deeds.
“The pieces of paper you have do not add value to wealth creation. The title deeds (once issued upon lifting of the caveat) will enable you to borrow loans for businesses,” Gachagua said.
The DP praised the National Government Administration Officers for working with the communities of Njoro and the surrounding areas to maintain peace.
He warned that the William Ruto administration would not tolerate any form of incitement against other communities.
“I want to encourage our security teams to continue remaining vigilant in ensuring that communities live in peace,” Gachagua said.
The Deputy President stated that the war on illicit brew is going well. It won’t stop.
“We are restoring homes and families. Chiefs and Commissioners have clear instructions from the President not to entertain illicit brews,” he said.
“Those making and selling such, are merchants of death. They hate me. But I do not need them to like me. My focus is to see happy families.”
Gachagua, who was accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, and other leaders, reassured Kenyans that the economy is recovering.
While responding to MP Kathambi’s remarks about betrayal, the Deputy President stated that it is part of politics and requires a bigger heart to succeed.
The Deputy President praised Kathambi for establishing the foundation, saying it will help vulnerable constituents live better lives in accordance with David Chepkwony’s legacy.
The Deputy President was accompanied by Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones, Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule, her counterparts Esther Passaris (Nairobi), Elizabeth Kailemia (Meru), MP Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Area MCA Moses Koros, and other leaders.
