Sad Day As ODM Politician Severely Injured as Protestors Vandalize Vehicle

Catherine Okoth, a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), sustained severe injuries after being ambushed by protestors while in her vehicle.

On Monday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed that Okoth had been rushed to the hospital and had undergone surgery. She is currently recovering.

“This vehicle belongs to Hon. Catherine Okoth. She is a nominated MCA and the Chairlady of ODM in Nairobi.

She was badly hurt in this incident and is currently recovering from surgery at Nairobi Hospital,” Sifuna stated.

The attack occurred on Tuesday last week, coinciding with protestors breaching security and entering Parliament.

According to Philip Etale, ODM’s Communications Director, Okoth was attacked while leaving the County Assembly.

Accompanied by her driver, she was ambushed by protestors who threw a stone at the windscreen, causing the driver to lose control and veer into a ditch near the General Post Office (GPO).

Etale described the incident, noting that protestors took the opportunity to further harm the two individuals.

They vandalized the vehicle and injured Okoth and her driver.

Videos circulating on social media depicted angry protestors hitting the vehicle with stones and reaching inside through broken windows.

The attack resulted in significant damage to the car and injuries to the occupants.

After the protestors left, an ambulance arrived and transported Okoth and her driver to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

They were later moved to a private hospital, where they underwent surgery. “They were both severely injured, Okoth had a deep cut on her head but they are both okay now.

They were discharged from the hospital and are recuperating at home,” Etale added.

Etale also addressed allegations that Okoth and her driver had run over and killed a protestor while leaving Parliament.

He clarified that the vehicle did not hit any protestors, despite the driver losing control and impaired vision.

He emphasized that protestors were stoning any vehicle suspected to belong to politicians.
