Government Responds To Uhuru Kenyatta, Claims He Rented His Personal Property As An Office

Government spokesperson Issac Mwaura addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s claims about being denied a budget by the State House.

Uhuru had earlier alleged that his office had not received any budgetary allocation and that attempts to secure an audience with the current administration had been ignored.

Issac Mwaura refuted these claims by providing detailed insights into the support that the former President continues to receive from the State House.

According to Mwaura, Uhuru Kenyatta owns fourteen vehicles that are fueled, serviced, and maintained by the State House.

He pointed out that most of these vehicles were purchased between 2020 and 2022, and hence remain in excellent condition.Furthermore, Mwaura disclosed that Uhuru Kenyatta had made specific demands for additional vehicles.

These included a Range Rover Vogue costing Ksh 51 million, a Mercedes-Benz S500 valued at Ksh 66 million, a Toyota Land Cruiser worth Ksh 22 million, and a Toyota Fortuner priced at Ksh 11 million.

The total cost of these vehicles amounts to a staggering Ksh 140 million.

The spokesperson also highlighted the issue of office space. In 2013, the government purchased an office intended for the former President, which has remained vacant since the passing of Mwai Kibaki.

However, Uhuru Kenyatta opted to lease his own apartment for use as an office.

Mwaura emphasized that this decision presents a conflict of interest, and the current administration is committed to adhering to constitutional guidelines, making it clear that they cannot support unconstitutional practices.

Addressing the budgetary process, Mwaura explained that the State House controller is responsible for preparing the budget.

This process includes determining the allocation of funds, presenting the budget to Parliament, and ensuring its approval by members of Parliament.

The State House controller also has a duty to ensure that public funds are spent prudently, as he is the accounting officer accountable for financial management.

This clarification from Issac Mwaura aims to shed light on the ongoing political discourse and to inform the public about the actual state of affairs.

By providing these details, the government seeks to counter the allegations made by the former President and to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability.

The government’s response to Uhuru Kenyatta’s claims underscores the complexities of managing post-presidential benefits and the importance of adhering to established protocols.

The revelations made by Issac Mwaura not only refute the allegations but also highlight the government’s stance on maintaining constitutional integrity and fiscal responsibility.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, such clarifications are crucial for fostering an informed and engaged citizenry.
