President William Ruto Reveals Staggering Cost of US Visit, Exposes Trip Sponsors

During a National Prayer Breakfast on May 30, 2024, in Nairobi, President William Ruto addressed criticisms regarding the expense of his recent trip to the United States.

He revealed that the trip cost merely Ksh 10 million, not the speculated Ksh 200 million. President Ruto emphasized his commitment to fiscal responsibility, stating, “The trip cost the republic of Kenya less than Ksh 10 million.”

Ruto underscored his dedication to leading by example, advocating for budgetary prudence across all government levels. “Look at me Kenyans, look at me again.

I must lead from the front as I tell others to tighten up their belt mine must be where to begin,” he asserted, urging an end to the debate over the trip’s cost.

Beyond travel expenses, President Ruto highlighted broader fiscal measures, including instructing state corporations and parastatals to cut recurrent budgets by 30%.

“I was pleasantly surprised that each and every parastatal was willing to contribute to making sure that we live within our means,” Ruto said, commending their cooperation.

The President’s administration is committed to financial discipline at the highest echelons of power. “My office and that of my deputy and that of my prime cabinet secretary, we have said we are going to start with ourselves.

We must lead from the front, tighten up our belts,” he stated.Ruto outlined strategic investments in productive sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure to foster economic growth and create opportunities for ordinary Kenyans.

His ultimate goal is to eliminate persistent budget deficits and avoid borrowing. “My plan is that in three years we must have a balanced budget.

We cannot continue to have a budget that has a deficit that before you begin, you have to borrow,” Ruto declared.By addressing the travel cost controversy and emphasizing fiscal responsibility, President Ruto aims to instill a culture of financial discipline and transparency within the Kenyan government.
