Fear and uncertainty in Machakos as missing MCA linked to impeachment motion against Governor Ndeti amid Ksh 800m corruption scandal

The political crisis in Machakos County has deepened following the mysterious disappearance of Muthwani Ward MCA Dominic Maitha. His colleagues have raised concerns after he went missing for more than 24 hours, fueling suspicions that his disappearance is connected to his outspoken stance against Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

The missing MCA had recently announced his intention to table an impeachment motion against the governor, citing corruption, bribery of MCAs, and efforts to remove Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya.

Maitha had openly accused Ndeti of misusing public funds, specifically pointing to the controversial Ksh 800 million Machakos Youth Service project.

He argued that the funds were not properly accounted for and insisted that the governor was running the county in an opaque manner. Drawing comparisons to the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Maitha had declared that Ndeti was heading down a similar path due to her alleged mismanagement of county affairs.

The sudden disappearance of an MCA who had vowed to challenge the governor has sparked serious concerns among his colleagues.

Several MCAs have pointed fingers at the county government, claiming that officials close to the governor might know his whereabouts. They have urged security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly, warning that any attempt to silence dissent through intimidation or foul play will not be tolerated.

Political tensions in Machakos have been rising, with deep divisions among MCAs over key leadership issues. Reports indicate that around 30 MCAs traveled to Mombasa ahead of an expected vote on the removal of Speaker Ann Kiusya, a move that some have interpreted as a strategy to weaken the impeachment motion against Governor Ndeti.

The governor has been accused of using county resources to influence MCAs and suppress opposition voices. If true, these allegations would further expose the culture of corruption and political manipulation that has plagued the county government.

The case of Dominic Maitha’s disappearance now adds a darker dimension to the growing unrest in Machakos. If his absence is linked to political intimidation, it raises serious questions about the state of governance under Wavinya Ndeti.

Instead of addressing the corruption claims, the county leadership seems to be engaging in underhanded tactics to silence critics.

The people of Machakos deserve transparency and accountability, yet the governor’s administration appears determined to crush any form of dissent.

The allegations against her are not new, but Maitha’s bold move to initiate impeachment had put her under renewed pressure. Now that he has gone missing, it only reinforces fears that those who challenge her leadership may be facing real danger.

The fate of the missing MCA remains uncertain, but his case is a test for both the security agencies and the political leadership in Machakos.

If the county government has nothing to hide, it should fully cooperate with investigations and ensure Maitha’s safe return. Any attempts to cover up the truth will only fuel more suspicion and deepen the crisis.

Machakos residents must demand answers, and the MCAs who still stand for accountability should not be intimidated into silence.

This is not just about Maitha—it is about the integrity of the county government and the rights of elected leaders to question misuse of public funds without fear of disappearance.
