Gambling in Kenya has been plagued with issues of tax evasion, fraud, and regulatory lapses, undermining public trust in the industry. A new player, Maybets, has emerged in this controversial market, led by Aggrey Sayi, the CEO of Maybets Kenya.
Sayi, who claims to run a legitimate business, is at the center of numerous allegations that paint a troubling picture of both his personal and professional life.
He is accused of being a proxy for a flamboyant politician and Bulgarian investors behind the betting firm, with his leadership raising questions about the companyโs true motives and operations.
Sayiโs name has become synonymous with scandal, from claims of being a sexual predator to rumors of secret homosexual relationships, which have caused a stir both in the business world and among the public.
Aggrey Sayiโs personal life, however, has attracted more attention than his business dealings.
He has been accused of sexually exploiting women, with Eve Mungai, a notable figure in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, allegedly falling victim to his advances.
His behavior has led to comparisons with notorious figures like Balteser Engonga, who gained a reputation for similar misconduct.
In addition to these accusations, Sayiโs sexuality has been a topic of much speculation. Sources close to him claim that he has maintained a long-term homosexual relationship with a man named Chrispine, dating back to their school days.
Their private meetings, often held at a popular location in Kilimani known as Alfajiri, have been described as secretive gatherings for others in the LGBTQ+ community.
These parties, which are far from the public eye, are said to be intimate affairs where Sayi and Chrispine reaffirm their relationship, away from the scrutiny of their families and society.
The secrecy surrounding Sayiโs personal life extends beyond Nairobi.
It is reported that he frequently escapes to Mombasa with Chrispine and other associates, booking villas at the Tamarind to host private parties for local homosexuals.
These gatherings are more than just social events they allegedly involve morally controversial acts that participants keep hidden from public view.
The villas serve as a haven for these individuals, offering them a space to engage in activities that they would otherwise be unable to pursue in the open, without fear of judgment or exposure.
A particularly alarming event took place on 12th October, when Sayi and other prominent members of Nairobiโs LGBTQ+ community hosted a private party at Nokras in Embu.
This high-profile event, which continued until the early hours of the morning, was attended by influential figures from the community. Such incidents, alongside the allegations surrounding Sayi, have only served to amplify concerns about his leadership at Maybets.
His actions and associations paint a troubling picture for the company, raising serious doubts about the legitimacy of Maybets as it continues to grow in Kenyaโs betting market.
With the ongoing scrutiny of Sayiโs personal and professional life, the future of the company, and the wider gambling industry in Kenya, remains uncertain.
