NACADA Reports Massive Cases Of Young Kenyans Injecting Alcohol Through Their Rectum

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has issued a warning about a disturbing and potentially deadly trend among Kenya’s youth: alcohol enemas.

Alcohol enemas, also known as bütt-chügging or böofing, involve inserting alcoholic beverages into the rectum via the anus, bypassing the body’s metabolizing processes.

People may consume alcohol in this manner in order to feel its effects faster, avoid vomiting, or due to peer pressure.

Nacada has issued a serious warning about the use of rectal alcohol injections.

“This trend, if indeed factual, is not only alarming but calls for immediate action by relevant stakeholders to protect our youth from potentially fàtal consequences,” NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa stated.

A viral media production highlighting this dangerous practice sparked the authorities’ concern.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, has sparked an urgent investigation.

The NACADA report warns of several serious health risks associated with rectal alcohol injections, including alcohol poisoning, respiratory failure, and potentially fatal complications.

“Unlike drinking, where the body can regulate the intake, alcohol enemas lead to very rapid absorption.

This bypasses the body’s natural defences and can result in sudden unconsciousness, respiratory failure, or even death,” Nacada said.

Omerikwa also mentioned the possibility of severe rectum and colon damage, an increased risk of infection, and alcohol dependence as a result of the method’s potent effects.

Nacada urges everyone, particularly young people, to avoid such dangerous practices.

The rise of this trend has highlighted the role of social media in spreading harmful behaviours.Nacada has urged all stakeholders, including parents, educators, and community leaders, to engage with young people and prevent the spread of such dangerous ideas.

The case of rectal alcohol injection serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that exist in the digital age.Nacada’s urgent message is clear: ‘This is not a trend to be underestimated’.

In order to ensure the health and well-being of all Kenyans, Nacada is encouraging those struggling with alcohol or drüg-related issues to contact their 24-hour toll-free helpline 1192.

The question now is whether this warning will be enough to stop a trend that, while shocking, could be just the latest in a long line of dangerous fads fuelled by social media.

Only time will tell, but for now, the spotlight is firmly on Kenya’s youth and the dangerous new terrain they are taking.
