Miguna Miguna has openly accused Embakasi East MP Babu Owino of repeatedly escaping accountability despite facing serious criminal allegations over the years.
His remarks, shared on social media at the end of December 2025, brought renewed focus to the MP’s past and ongoing court cases and sparked sharp debate among Kenyans about justice, politics, and the rule of law.
In his post on X, Miguna referred to Babu Owino as “Babu Patel” and claimed that the MP has been involved in what he described as long-standing criminal activities. He argued that in a country where the law is applied equally, individuals linked to criminal networks should serve long jail terms. Miguna also criticised sections of the media, accusing them of soft reporting when it comes to powerful political figures.
His post was shared widely, with some users supporting his position and others defending the MP and questioning Miguna’s tone and claims.

Babu Owino has faced several legal cases since entering politics, many of which have attracted national attention. One of the most notable incidents occurred in January 2020 at a Nairobi nightclub, where he was accused of shooting DJ Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve.
Following the incident, Babu Owino was charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a firearm.
The case shocked the country, especially after CCTV footage from the club surfaced and circulated widely on social media.
Later developments in the case saw the attempted murder charge dropped after the complainant withdrew the case, stating that there had been reconciliation. However, the charge related to misuse of a firearm remained active.
In a recent court decision, a magistrate ruled that Babu Owino has a case to answer on the firearm charge, meaning the trial is still ongoing and has not been concluded.
Shortly after he was elected as MP in 2017, Babu Owino was arrested and charged with subversion and incitement following remarks he allegedly made during political gatherings.
These charges were eventually dropped after the court found insufficient evidence. He was also charged again with incitement during the 2023 anti-government protests linked to the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
These charges did not result in a conviction, with some collapsing due to lack of evidence or withdrawal by complainants.
Babu Owino has consistently denied wrongdoing in all the cases, maintaining that they are politically motivated and aimed at frustrating his work as a legislator. He has often portrayed himself as a victim of political persecution, arguing that his outspoken nature and opposition politics have made him a target. His supporters echo this view, saying the repeated arrests reflect political tensions rather than proven criminal behaviour.
Miguna Miguna’s comments have revived wider discussions about accountability and equal application of the law in Kenya. While his supporters believe he is calling out a system, critics argue that courts have handled Babu Owino’s cases through legal process and that no convictions have been secured so far.
