Kenya steals the spotlight as IShowSpeed gains 360,000 subscribers in one day

Kenya has found itself at the centre of global online attention after a dramatic visit by popular American YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr.

What was expected to be just another stop on his Africa tour quickly turned into one of the most talked-about digital moments the country has seen in recent years.Within

just one day of arriving in Nairobi, the content creator recorded numbers that surprised even his most loyal fans.

During his first day in the country, IShowSpeed gained more than 360,000 new subscribers on YouTube. This sudden growth pushed his channel to 48 million subscribers, a milestone he reached live while streaming in Kenya.According

to the streamer, no other country on his 28-day “Speed Does Africa Tour” has delivered such a massive increase in such a short time.Because

of this, he openly declared Kenya as the number one stop on his African journey so far.

The YouTuber is known worldwide for his loud reactions, fast-paced energy, love for football star Cristiano Ronaldo, and unpredictable live streams. When he landed in Nairobi, that same energy followed him everywhere. His livestream attracted over 200,000 viewers at its peak, placing it among the highest live viewership numbers ever recorded by a YouTuber during a public tour.

On the ground, huge crowds gathered to see him, with thousands of fans following his movements around the city and causing heavy traffic in some areas. His day started at Upper Hill High School, where he interacted with students and met Olympic javelin champion Julius Yego. The visit excited learners, many of whom had only seen him online before. From there, he toured several key places around Nairobi, including the Mukuru affordable housing project, where he saw parts of everyday life for many city residents.He

also visited the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, where he briefly met Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano on the rooftop.

At Kenyatta Market, the streamer spent time with local traders, buying goods and intentionally overpaying vendors, a gesture that earned him cheers from those present.He

later stopped at Uhuru Park and Nairobi National Park, showing his global audience the rare sight of wildlife living next to a busy capital city. His adventures continued with a fast safari rally-style drive through the CBD and a ride in a matatu, giving viewers a real taste of Nairobi’s street culture.

The emotional high point came during a helicopter ride over the city. While in the air, IShowSpeed spotted the upcoming Talanta Stadium, set to be renamed Raila Odinga Stadium. It was during this ride that his channel crossed the 48 million subscriber mark live on stream.

Overcome with emotion, he shouted, cried, and thanked his fans, saying Kenya would never be forgotten and calling it number one.

President William Ruto also welcomed the streamer, describing Kenya as a place full of energy, culture, and warmth. The Tourism Ministry and the Magical Kenya brand praised the visit, saying it showcased the country to millions of young people around the world.
