Betty Bayo’s mother disputes leukemia report, claims singer died from assault

According to a post shared on X by @BrianMPeter, new claims have emerged surrounding the death of gospel singer Betty Bayo. What was first believed to be an illness has now been questioned by her mother, who lives in the United States.

She spoke during a virtual interview with Shiru Wa Oakland, saying her daughter may have died from injuries caused by physical assault rather than leukemia, as earlier medical reports suggested.

During the interview, Betty’s mother explained that Betty and her husband, Tash, were no longer living together by the time she died. The two had reportedly separated three months earlier, and Tash had already returned to the United States.

What confused her most was how he managed to fly back to Kenya quickly enough to check in Betty’s body at Kenyatta Hospital shortly after she passed away.

She said this sudden appearance raised many questions for her and the rest of the family.

She went on to describe the issues that had led to the couple’s separation. According to her, Tash had allegedly taken Betty’s money and used it to buy two lorries in America, each costing about Ksh 8 million. The situation grew worse when he allegedly beat Betty while drunk and demanded Ksh 5 million from her.

Her mother says Betty was left without money and deeply distressed. At one point, Betty called her mother crying and asking why she had been left in such a dangerous situation, saying she feared for her safety.

Before the burial, the family, including Tash, reached an agreement that Betty’s sisters would take care of her children.

However, after the burial, Tash is said to have rejected the plan and told Betty’s mother that she would have to go to court if she wanted custody of the children.

Along with the children, Betty’s mother claims that Tash is also holding important documents, including Betty’s death certificate and her mother’s own ID card.

Another concern raised in the interview was the behaviour of Shiru Wa GP, a gospel singer and close friend of Betty. Mama Betty said she has tried calling her several times since the tragedy, but Shiru has never picked up her calls.

She said this silence has caused her a lot of pain during an already difficult time.

On the other hand, she praised Prophet Kanyari, saying he has been present for the children and has shown genuine concern. She urged him to continue supporting them and to visit Betty’s home to ensure the children are safe, as she believes they are not secure under Tash’s care.

She also mentioned that on the night of the burial, Tash allegedly brought other women into the home and partied in Betty’s matrimonial bed. Due to all these concerns, Mama Betty insisted that a postmortem must be carried out so the truth behind her daughter’s death can be known and justice can be served.
