Staff at the Quickmart Supermarket Westlands Branch have raised concerns about what they describe as a difficult and demoralising work environment. Many of them say they have endured intimidation, unnecessary referrals to HR, and frequent dismissals that have created fear and confusion among workers.
They feel most of the issues pushed to HR could easily be solved at the branch, but instead the process is used in a way that leaves staff stressed and uncertain about their future.
According to several accounts, this is not an isolated case, as similar situations have reportedly happened in other branches, pointing to a wider problem in the companyโs management culture.
A staff member reached out to Cyprian Is Nyakundi, requesting anonymity, and shared a detailed account of what workers at the Westlands Branch are dealing with. In the statement, the worker claimed that the branch manager, Solomon Mbugua, has been central to the unrest.
They described a pattern where at least one staff member is dismissed every month, and another is sent to the HR office every week over issues they consider minor. The worker said that many staff struggle to work under his leadership because they feel intimidated and undervalued.
They added that when employees are sent to HR, the issue raised at the branch often changes once they arrive at the HR office, making the process feel unfair.
The worker also criticised the HR agencies connected to Quickmart, mentioning Specific Talents and Retail Management Solutions (RMS).
They said these agencies rarely give staff a chance to explain themselves, and rely solely on what is written in emails from the branch manager.
According to the account, this has created a system where staff feel unheard, unprotected, and judged without fairness.
The worker questioned whether the HR officers act professionally or if they are influenced by personal connections.
The statement further questioned the vetting process used by Quickmart Headquarters when selecting managers.
The staff member claimed that Solomon Mbugua had a questionable work history at the Kilimani Branch before he was promoted, yet he still secured a managerial position.
They claimed he often boasts about strong connections at the headquarters that protect him from being transferred, and this has increased frustration among staff who feel trapped under his leadership.
The worker expressed concern that if such practices continue, the reputation and stability of the supermarket chain may suffer. They added that many qualified people in the branches are overlooked because headquarters allegedly fear they might outshine the managers.
This, they believe, has created a cycle where loyalty and personal links matter more than competence.
The staff appealed to Quickmart Headquarters to intervene and provide proper leadership at the Westlands Branch.
They said employees want a work environment where they feel safe, respected, and given a fair chance to grow. According to them, staff morale has dropped so much that some workers are considering taking their own action if the situation does not change.
They insisted that the concerns shared should be taken seriously so that staff can regain confidence and stability at their workplace.
