CCTV footage has provided crucial insight into the last movements of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu before he was killed on Magadi Road in Nairobi.
The recordings suggest that his attackers may have followed him from his office to the location where the shooting occurred. On Tuesday morning, around 6:35 a.m., Mbobu arrived at his office at Town House along Kaunda Street, wearing a suit and a red tie. He checked in at the reception, then went to the ground floor to collect newspapers from the security desk before proceeding to his office on the ninth floor.
The footage shows that at about 10 a.m., Mbobu stepped out of his office and had a brief conversation with a woman in the corridor before returning to continue his work. Colleagues who interacted with him during the day described him as appearing normal and focused, showing no signs of distress or concern.
One colleague said, “During the day, he met a client and I saw him, and he went for a meeting at around noon and came back at around 2:30 p.m. and continued with his work.”Later, around 5:14 p.m., Mbobu was recorded leaving his office again, taking the elevator to the ground floor.
Another man was seen exiting the same lift at the same time. Outside the building, a man dressed in black with a bag on his back was spotted making a phone call. The individual ended the call immediately after Mbobu passed by and then appeared to move in the lawyer’s direction.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are focusing on this man, who is considered a key person of interest in the case.
The CCTV footage also tracked Mbobu’s route through the city. He was seen driving through Wabera Street, Parliament Road, and Lang’ata Road, before reaching Magadi Road, where he was shot.
The investigation has since identified two individuals linked to the lawyer, believed to be among the people he met on the day of his death.
DCI detectives are carefully analyzing the footage to establish a timeline and reconstruct Mbobu’s final movements. The recordings provide a clear picture of the sequence of events leading up to the shooting and highlight potential suspects who may have monitored his actions throughout the day.
Authorities continue to piece together the evidence as they work to bring those responsible for the killing to justice. The investigation remains active, with law enforcement urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in solving the case.
This footage and the ongoing investigation have become central to understanding how Mbobu was targeted and tracking the chain of events that led to his death, raising questions about possible premeditation and the involvement of individuals familiar with his schedule and routines.
