Fred Matiang’i is now facing heavy criticism after a document surfaced showing that he personally signed the order to deport Miguna Miguna back in 2018.
This new evidence goes directly against his recent public denial where he claimed he had no role in that decision. The document, dated February 6, 2018, clearly bears his name and signature, declaring Miguna a prohibited immigrant and ordering his removal from Kenya.

Nelson Amenya, a social media user known for exposing political matters, shared the image on X with the words “Evidence iko kwa kalatas buana,” and it quickly went viral.
Many Kenyans were furious, not only because of the lie but because it brought back painful memories of how Miguna was treated. Miguna, a Kenyan-born citizen, was forcefully deported despite court orders directing his release.
Matiang’i’s denial, followed by the emergence of this official letter, paints a picture of a man who is either unwilling to take responsibility or hoping the public has forgotten.
What’s worse is that this is not just about lying it is about abuse of power, misuse of government authority, and violation of a citizen’s rights. Social media exploded with angry reactions.

Francis Gaitho said, “They lie so effortlessly and shamelessly,” while Maureen added, “Accountability coming to bite them in the a#%# after all this time.” Others like @andhendhaoloo recalled crying over Miguna’s unlawful expulsion and said it showed what Matiang’i is capable of if he ever becomes president.
The public anger was clear, with comments labeling Matiang’i a coward and even a criminal. Many are now demanding that he be barred from seeking any public office again.
This moment has become more than just about Miguna. It has reopened conversations around justice, transparency, and leadership in Kenya. If Matiang’i could sign such an order, ignore court rulings, and then deny it years later, what else did he do while in office that has been swept under the carpet?

People like @musambatii said leaders think power is permanent, but documents like this show that truth eventually comes out. Kenya must now decide if it will continue tolerating leaders who lie to cover up their past actions or if it will hold them accountable.
Matiang’i’s image as a no-nonsense public servant is now in tatters. And unless he comes forward with honesty, his legacy may forever be stained by this act of political betrayal.
