A recent investigative report by Africa Uncensored has revealed troubling allegations involving a long-serving teacher at Alliance Girls High School, one of Kenya’s most respected schools.
The report, which took four years to compile, focuses on the conduct of Peter Ayiro, a teacher who held key roles like patron of the Christian Union and drama club.
According to the investigation, Ayiro is accused of developing emotionally inappropriate and sometimes sexually exploitative relationships with several students over more than twenty years.
Former students and teachers shared stories that painted a picture of calculated grooming. Ayiro allegedly gave special attention to certain girls, praising them as spiritually unique or exceptionally gifted.
This attention included frequent private meetings, emotional conversations, and physical closeness, all of which blurred the line between teacher and student.
Many former students said they trusted him deeply, partly because of his strong spiritual image and his position within the school’s religious groups.
The allegations go further. Some former students claimed that after leaving school, Ayiro continued to contact them, even inviting them to his on-campus residence.
In two cases, women described how meetings with him turned sexual after they had recently turned 18. One of them recounted an incident during the COVID-19 lockdown when Ayiro picked her up for what was meant to be a walk, but ended up becoming a sexual encounter.
Another described being invited to spend the night at his house under the pretense of preparing for a mentorship program, which also ended in a sexual experience.
The report also highlights how Ayiro was protected by the school’s leadership and his strong religious ties. Some teachers admitted to noticing inappropriate behavior but chose not to report it, fearing consequences or believing it would lead nowhere.
Efforts to raise concerns were made as far back as 2018 and again in 2021, but were ignored or dismissed.
A former chaplain even shared how her warnings were not taken seriously by the administration.Ayiro’s influence stretched beyond the school into church circles, especially those tied to his father’s ministry, Koinonia Life Centre.
Some of his former students continued to encounter him in these church settings, where the same patterns reportedly continued. Private messages revealed by the report showed that Ayiro used language mixing spiritual care with romantic undertones, referring to students as “special one” or “my heartbeat.”
The allegations challenge the belief that elite schools like Alliance Girls are safe and strictly monitored. Many are now questioning how such behavior could continue for so long without action from the school, religious leaders, or even government institutions like the Teachers Service Commission.
As of now, neither Ayiro nor Alliance Girls High School has issued a public response to the allegations. The full investigative report titled “The Teacher and the System” is available on Africa Uncensored’s official Substack, where more testimonies, evidence, and background information can be found.
The public and authorities now await any legal or institutional action following the serious claims revealed in the report.
