Honda Motorcycle Kenya has been put on the radar for alleged violations of local regulations and employment standards. The company, which manufactures and distributes motorcycles in Kenya, is facing serious complaints from insiders who claim the company has long ignored local laws and failed to provide adequate support for its workers.
These grievances have been shared by Cyprian Is Nyakundi on X, shedding light on the company’s troubling practices. According to the source, employees working in route sales and distribution roles, tasked with delivering motorcycles and spare parts to dealers across Kenya, have endured harsh working conditions for over a decade.

They allege that the company has repeatedly failed to comply with county regulations, specifically the requirement for a distribution license. This license is necessary for the sale and transportation of motorcycles and their components across various counties. Without it, employees are often harassed by county enforcement officers, who demand bribes or arrest them, while the company provides no support for the workers, even when they are carrying branded Honda products.
The source further states that despite raising the issue and even submitting official invoices from county governments requesting payment for the necessary licenses, Honda Motorcycle Kenya has ignored these requests. This has left employees vulnerable to harassment, fines, and arrests.

The employees are left to handle the situation on their own, often using their personal money to pay fines or bail themselves out if arrested by county officers.
According to the message shared by Cyprian Is Nyakundi, the company’s negligence in securing the proper licenses has created a culture where bribery is indirectly encouraged. It is claimed that county governments are being denied legitimate revenue from the growing motorcycle distribution sector, which is crucial for both urban and rural transport.

The workers believe that while the company refuses to take responsibility for its regulatory violations, employees face strict punishment for even minor infractions of internal company rules. This discrepancy is particularly frustrating given the challenging and sometimes hostile field conditions employees face while trying to meet sales and distribution targets.

They emphasized that Honda Motorcycle Kenya’s failure to address these regulatory breaches not only harms its employees but also undermines the local economy by promoting corruption and depriving county governments of much-needed revenue.
The employees, who have repeatedly asked for the company’s intervention, feel abandoned and exposed. Despite their best efforts to highlight these issues, including providing invoices from county governments, the company has yet to take action.

This situation raises serious concerns about Honda Motorcycle Kenya’s business practices and its treatment of employees. The company’s disregard for local laws and failure to support its workforce has led to widespread dissatisfaction and accusations of contributing to a culture of corruption.
