Thousands of Kenyans who won the DV2025 Green Card lottery are now crying out for help after long delays at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi. Popular blogger and activist Cyprian Is Nyakundi has shared their frustration, giving a voice to those who feel neglected and ignored by the embassy. According to those affected, the last time the Nairobi mission processed any Diversity Visa interviews was in January 2025, leaving many wondering whether they will ever get a chance to attend theirs before time runs out.
Data shared by the applicants shows that while Africa’s cut-off case number has already reached 42500, Nairobi has only processed cases up to number 14065. With over 4,000 Kenyans having been selected for DV2025, only 421 have reportedly been interviewed. That means the majority are still waiting, with no explanation from the embassy and no updates on when or if the process will resume.

Many applicants say they have tried to move their cases to other embassies that are still processing visas, but have either been denied or ignored. What makes the situation worse, they say, is that Nairobi was one of the top-performing embassies in the world last year.
The sudden collapse in performance this year has left many feeling hopeless. One Green Card winner reached out to Cyprian Is Nyakundi with a detailed message, asking him to share it widely. In the message, the applicant said, “Hi Cyprian. I love the work that you do on social media, especially when you are a voice to the vulnerable in the community. I have a request and would greatly appreciate if you will help me reach out for help. My issue is with the US Embassy and how the Green Card winners DV2025 have not been processed since January 2025.”

I happen to have won the Green Card and have been looking forward to the day for my interview, together with very many other Kenyans who are now very, very frustrated as we don’t know what is happening with the US Embassy in Kenya… Nairobi Embassy last processed Case Number 14065, and we are now at 42500 for Africa. There are only 55,000 visas issued globally, and Kenya has interviewed 421 out of the over 4,000 selectees for the current year.”

The applicant also expressed concern for those who won the latest DV2026 lottery, saying, “The results for DV 2026 came out on Saturday, 3 May 2025, and if this is the trend to go by, they will NOT be interviewed at all.” These pleas are now gaining attention online, as Kenyans demand that the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi give clarity and resume interviews immediately. The silence from the embassy has created anxiety and fear among hopefuls who followed every step, only to now watch their dreams fade away due to inaction. With time quickly running out before the U.S. fiscal year ends in September, many believe urgent action must be taken to avoid wasting thousands of opportunities.
