The sudden death of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has raised serious questions about Governor Johnson Sakaja’s role, with growing voices pointing fingers directly at the governor. Among the most vocal is Maverick Aoko, who took to social media accusing Sakaja of being involved in Munuve’s mysterious death.
Aoko claimed that Sakaja had allegedly paid millions to cover his tracks, suggesting that Munuve might have been poisoned. Her post was clear and provocative, painting a picture of a governor trying to clean his image through money and media manipulation.

Joel Munuve was not just another MCA. He was one of the few leaders in Nairobi who openly stood up to Sakaja’s administration. He challenged the county’s questionable school feeding program and demanded accountability in public projects.
He also pushed for Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital to be returned to national government control after it was allegedly run down under county management. These actions clearly put him on a collision course with the county leadership, especially Sakaja.
Now with Munuve gone under unclear circumstances, many are no longer viewing his death as just a coincidence. Sakaja has denied the accusations, even appearing on JKLive to claim innocence.

But many see this as a rehearsed PR move, especially given the timing. The same night Maverick Aoko dropped her allegations, Sakaja was comfortably sitting with Jeff Koinange, who has also been accused of being part of a media sanitization campaign.
Aoko didn’t hold back, even suggesting that Sakaja showed up drunk for the interview, and that the media was being used to shield powerful people from being probed.
The question that now haunts Nairobi is why an MCA with no known health issues would collapse and die so suddenly while still actively fighting for transparency.

Sakaja’s image as a clean leader has taken a hit. His quick dismissal of the claims and push to control the narrative only add to the suspicion.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken over the case, but there’s growing concern that this too might be a formality. Nairobi residents and some leaders are demanding real answers, not staged condolences or media appearances.
Maverick Aoko’s bold statements have stirred the spat, and many now believe that Munuve’s death was more than just a health emergency. It’s a scandal that could reveal the true character of Sakaja’s leadership.
