In a Facebook post that has caused quite a stir, Nyto Mwangi shed light on the long-standing rivalry between Geoffrey Mosiria and Babu Owino, two political figures whose feud goes back to their student leadership days at the University of Nairobi.
Their conflict has now escalated, with Mosiria making serious allegations against Babu Owino, accusing him of building his wealth through an underground drug business during his time as a student leader.
Mosiria, who now serves as the Chief Officer for Environment in Nairobi County, has not held back in expressing his views about Babu Owino. Their bad blood appears to trace back to contested SONU elections at UoN, where both were active participants in student politics.
Mosiria believes that Babu’s dominance at the university was not only political but also financial, claiming that he ran a drug business that allegedly funded his rise.
However, this is not supported by any credible evidence or public reports. It remains one of the many controversial statements Mosiria has made against his former university rival.
Babu Owino, currently the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, has in the past dismissed such allegations. In a well-known 2016 Citizen TV interview, he explained that his wealth was the result of legitimate businesses, including supplies, real estate, construction, and farming.
He also stated that he received support from former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi during his university days. These explanations, while not universally accepted, have stood as his official response to any accusations about his wealth’s origin.

The political feud has not been limited to financial allegations. There have been other confrontations in the public eye.
Mosiria recently accused Babu of using outdated images of garbage in Nairobi to embarrass the county government, calling it a desperate attempt to discredit the administration of Governor Johnson Sakaja.
He also dismissed Babu’s claim that Mosiria extorts money from Nairobi residents, stating that he is a church elder and inviting anyone with proof to report him to the authorities.
The University of Nairobi has not commented on the allegations despite being the alleged setting of the drug business claim. Likewise, Babu Owino has not issued a fresh statement in response to the recent social media post.
This silence has left the public in suspense and allowed room for speculation. Without any new official investigation or clarification, the matter remains unresolved. Both men have continued their political lives, with Mosiria being active in environmental management, often making headlines for night inspections and noise pollution crackdowns.
Babu Owino remains an outspoken MP, known for his bold statements and support for the youth. However, if these unverified claims by Mosiria persist, they may impact Babu’s political ambitions, especially if he plans to run for a higher office such as governor of Nairobi.

Nyto Mwangi’s post has reignited public interest in this bitter rivalry, reminding Kenyans how student politics can carry long-lasting consequences. The clash between Mosiria and Babu is not just about personal differences; it reflects deeper issues in Nairobi’s political culture, where personal attacks often replace policy debates.
Unless these claims are properly investigated or addressed through official channels, they will only serve to deepen mistrust and distract from important service delivery matters. For now, the public is left to choose what to believe, hoping that facts will eventually rise above political noise.
