Russia sent 70,000 tons of fertilizer to Kenya as a donation, aiming to help local farmers increase crop production. This seemed like a generous and timely gesture, a way to support the backbone of Kenya’s economy and ensure food security.
The idea was for the fertilizer to reach farmers who would then use it to improve their yields, feed their families, and keep the country’s agricultural sector strong. However, what followed after the donation has raised serious questions, leaving many people feeling betrayed and wondering what exactly happened behind the scenes.
Instead of the fertilizer reaching the farmers directly, the government handed it over to a company named Devki. The company, owned by businessman Narendra Raval, who is often referred to as “Guru,” is a major player in Kenya’s steel industry and has close ties with influential people, including politicians.
This in itself raised suspicions about why Devki was chosen to handle the fertilizer meant for struggling farmers. What happened next only fueled the growing anger and frustration.
Juma G, a concerned Kenyan, shared the story on X, revealing the shocking details. According to her, Devki didn’t just distribute the fertilizer as it was. They mixed it with chemicals and sand, making it seem like the real thing. Then, they packaged the altered mixture into more bags and sold it back to the government for a profit.
The government, unaware of the manipulation, distributed it to farmers who were desperate for help. But when these farmers used the fertilizer on their crops, nothing happened. The plants didn’t grow, and many died.

The disappointment was crushing for farmers who had put their hopes into the fertilizer, only to see their crops fail. This revelation has sparked outrage, and the question everyone is asking is why this happened.
Why did Devki, a company with no obvious link to agriculture, end up handling the fertilizer donation? Was it a case of favoritism, or was it because of the company’s connections with powerful figures? If Devki indeed turned a donation meant for farmers into a way to make money at the cost of people’s livelihoods then this is a severe betrayal. At the heart of this scandal is President William Ruto.
During his campaigns, he promised to support farmers and everyday Kenyans, understanding the importance of agriculture to the nation. So why did he allow the fertilizer to go through a company like Devki instead of ensuring it reached the farmers directly? Some speculate that his close relationship with Raval and other influential businessmen may have influenced the decision.
There’s also speculation that Devki has benefited from other favorable deals, such as importing steel without paying taxes, which has led to accusations of corruption and preferential treatment.
The aftermath of this fertilizer scandal has left many farmers angry and feeling cheated. They trusted the government to look out for their interests, only to find themselves with ruined crops and little explanation.
Juma G’s post on X has struck a nerve with many, with the sentiment growing that this may be more than just a simple mistake this could be a scam. Whether all the claims are true or not, the situation has exposed serious flaws in the handling of public resources, and it’s hard not to question the integrity of those in charge.
The mess created by this affair is undeniable, and it leaves many wondering who is really benefiting from the system, and at what cost to the people.
