Aga Khan Hospital Parklands is facing serious concerns over the unavailability of birth notification slips and polio vaccines for newborns. Parents have been left in confusion and frustration after their newborns are discharged without these essential documents and vaccinations.
The issue was exposed by Cyprian Nyakundi on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he shared a complaint from a concerned parent.
According to the complaint, the parent’s newborn was discharged last week without a birth notification slip or the crucial polio vaccine. They were advised to keep calling the hospital for updates, but every time they called, they were transferred from one person to another without getting a clear answer.

The lack of proper communication from the hospital has made the situation worse for affected families. A birth notification slip is an important document that parents need to obtain a birth certificate for their child. Without it, parents face unnecessary delays and frustrations in getting legal documentation for their newborns.
The polio vaccine, on the other hand, is a critical immunization given to newborns to protect them from the highly infectious disease that can cause paralysis or even death. Denying infants access to this vaccine puts their health at risk.
Parents trust private hospitals like Aga Khan because of their reputation for quality healthcare. However, this latest development raises serious questions about how such an established institution can fail to provide basic newborn essentials.

The fact that parents are being discharged without these crucial services suggests either mismanagement or a lack of proper planning by the hospital administration.
Many Kenyans have reacted angrily to the revelations made by Cyprian Nyakundi, with some sharing their own experiences of poor service at private hospitals.
Others have questioned how a top-tier facility like Aga Khan can run out of birth notification slips and vaccines, yet it charges high fees for maternity services.
If a private hospital is struggling with such basics, it raises concerns about the overall state of healthcare in the country. The hospital has not yet provided an official statement regarding the issue.
However, it is clear that parents need immediate solutions. Hospitals should never compromise on essential newborn care. If Aga Khan Parklands is indeed facing a shortage of birth notification slips and vaccines, they should urgently address the problem and communicate transparently with affected families.

The exposure by Cyprian Nyakundi has once again highlighted the rot in Kenya’s healthcare system. Private hospitals are known for prioritizing profits over patient welfare, and this case could be yet another example.
If hospitals cannot provide the most basic requirements for newborns, they have no moral ground to continue charging exorbitant fees.

The authorities should investigate this issue and ensure that no more parents have to go through such frustrations when seeking healthcare for their newborns.
