KNCHR chairperson confirmed dead after short illness

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has confirmed the death of its Chairperson, Roseline Odhiambo Odede, after a brief illness.

In a statement published by KNCHR Vice Chairperson Dr. Raymond Nyeris, the commission expressed its deep sadness, describing Ms. Odede’s death as a serious blow to both the human rights organization and the nation as a whole.

“It is with shock and deep sorrow that I inform you of the demise of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, HSC, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, that happened yesterday, Friday 3rd January 2025, after a short illness,” read part of the statement.

The commission went on to express its profound sympathies to Ms. Odede’s family and friends, recognizing the huge loss her passing has left.

“As a Commission, we had the privilege of serving with Roseline Odede as the Chairperson at the helm of the KNCHR’s leadership. Her untimely death is a big blow to the Commission and Nation at large,” added Dr. Nyeris.

“During this period of mourning, we send our message of condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, and all those who knew Roseline,” the statement continued.

“May the memories of her exceptional service bring comfort and strength in this difficult time.”Funeral plans are ongoing but have yet to be formally announced.
