Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi Warns KPLC Employees Of Complacency Amidst Poor Service

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has issued a warning to lethargic Kenya Power and Lighting Company staff, demanding rapid improvement in service delivery.

Wandayi expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as Kenyans’ continued suffering as a result of incompetence on the part of some utility personnel.

“There should be no reason at all why Kenyans should continue to suffer under the hands of officers who do not want to serve,” he said.

Wandayi underlined that there should be no excuse for failing to respond to customer complaints in a timely manner because people are genuine employers at KPLC.

“Take your work seriously and respond to complaints by wananchi swiftly and promptly, address the issues being raised on a timely basis,” he said.

Speaking in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, the CS stated that he will no longer accept any excuses from police and that “if you think that this work is too much for you, please give way.”

He reminded them that KPLC is a government-owned corporation and that if one is allocated responsibility for addressing rural energy difficulties, “please take your work seriously”.

Wandayi alleged that some officials had adopted a boss-like mentality, putting Kenyans in unnecessary pain.

He stated that it was his responsibility, as well as that of other officials in his ministry and other agencies, to support the President in achieving his goals of meeting the needs of the people.

The CS went on to say that in the new year, he will make dramatic reforms to the ministry to ensure that people receive effective services.

He also disclosed that he would make spontaneous trips to KPLC offices across the country to assess progress and hold officers accountable.

During his visit to Siaya, Wandayi toured the county KPLC office and urged the staff to continue providing timely and quality service. He was accompanied by the local MP, Samson Atandi.
