The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration (MINA) began the second phase of the validation and verification of high-impact projects in the Nyanza and Western regions on Monday, October 28.
This is a response to government critics who have been inspecting and broadcasting stalled government projects. Morara Kebaso, an activist and lawyer, has been vocal on this issue.
The exercise, which is supported by the Public Finance Management Reforms Secretariat (PFMR), began last month with phase one taking place in the Eastern and Coast regions.
Phases three and four will take place in the Rift Valley, Nairobi, Central, and North Eastern regions.
The team will look into the implementation of the edible oil value chain project, which was designed to produce 250,000 palm seedlings as well as canola, sunflower, and soya bean seeds.
Sunflower seeds were given to farmers in Kakamega, Bungoma, Siaya, and Homa Bay, Migori.
The second project involves increasing cotton production acreage from 26,000 to 200,000 acres and making cotton seeds available in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Busia, and Bungoma.
The construction of 200,000 affordable housing units per year in Milimani, South Maragoli, Funyula, Alego Usonga, Mabera, Nyaribari Masaba, and Lurambi will be monitored.
The team will travel 6,000 kilometers of roads constructed throughout the region, including low-volume seal roads.
Furthermore, the team will monitor the delivery of agricultural crop insurance to more than 2 million farmers in Homa Bay, Kisii, Nyamira, and Migori.
The goal is to minimize the risk of crop loss.Civil Aviation Development and Management at the Kisumu Airport will also be examined.
According to the government, Kisumu Airport’s control tower is 45 percent complete.
The team will also visit several technical vocational education facilities to assess their relevance in their communities.
The following tertiary institutions will be visited: Kitutu Chache TVC in Kisii County, Kisumu NP in Kisumu County, Sikri TTI in Homabay County, Uriri TVC in Migori County, Musakasa TTI in Bungoma County, Sigalagala NP in Kakamega County, and Bunyala TVC in Busia County.
Earlier, on Monday, September 9, the government began the first phase of verification of a high-impact project, following Morara Kebaso’s widely publicized exposes.
Morara, an activist, has been investigating stalled government projects.
