CS Rebecca Miano Exposed In Ksh 94 Billion Corruption Scandal Over Incomplete Power Projects And National Blackouts, When She Was CEO KenGen

Recent reports of corruption have surfaced against Rebecca Miano, the current Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Tourism and Wildlife in Kenya.

The accusations trace back to her tenure as the CEO of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Kengen).

According to the petition obtained by leaked.co.ke, outlines that Miano oversaw the allocation of over Ksh 94 billion to “white elephant” power generation projects that were either incomplete or deemed non-functional.

Kengen is said to have spent Ksh 79 billion drilling geothermal wells that were never connected to the national grid, a situation that continues to burden taxpayers with loan repayments without any corresponding benefits in power generation.

Moreover, Miano had been linked to national blackouts and inflated electricity bills.

The petition claims that these issues are partly due to the commissioning of unusable high-voltage transmission lines and misallocated funds on feasibility studies for power plants that never materialized. Specifically, Ksh 645 million was spent on studies for projects like the Meru Wind Power plant and Karura Hydro Power plant, which remain incomplete.

Additionally, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had previously taken an interest in the case, signaling potential legal repercussions.

These revelations have cast a shadow over her recent appointment as CS for Tourism and Wildlife, with critics questioning her capability to handle her new responsibilities given her track record at KenGen.
